the past

-reposted from an extinct blog-

most of my friends know that i love history. but my love of history runs deeper than one may think: i am constantly thinking about the past, about events long gone and dead forever. instead of the future, my mind remains focused on the moments, events, and lives that time has left behind.

the past torments me. i am obsessed with it; it's constantly on my mind. i think about it every day.

not just my past. the past in general. the past fascinates me far more than the future... why? i'm not sure. i really don't know...

it really bothers me, for some reason, that we'll never really know all the stories of the people who lived centuries ago... they are gone forever, their lives and hopes and heartaches and triumphs as dead as they are. the history books are never the full story; there's always so much more that we'll never know about even the most famous and well-documented events of the distant past.

and not just people. those ancient times, millions of years ago, when pre-avian dinosaurs and their kin walked the planet... it REALLY bugs me that we'll never know exactly how they looked, how they lived, what the earth looked like back then. i really want to know, but we won't ever TRULY know.

this infuriates, unsettles, haunts, and generally bothers me.

i hunger for the very idea of a time machine, and express intense frustration at the impossibility of it. and yet, a hope lingers.. however unlikely. could there be a way to visit or even just see what has already happened? as i said, unlikely. but i can hope, can't i?

Do you like Pokemon? I do. As an electric chick, I've always been pleased that the mascot for Pokemon just happens to be an Electric-type. Yeah, go Pikachu!

I just so happen to serve as Head Buildwiz of Pokemorph MUSH.

Since a bunch of my friends are also Pokemon fans, I thought I'd post the Pokes I dig and the ones I despise. I'll hafta update this when the 5th gen comes out in the US.

The Name Game

Welcome to Electric & Eccentric

I use this thing mainly for collecting written (or in this case, typed) bits of data such as my wishlist and links of interest in the same digital space. It's not a journal or anything of the sort, but it may contain the occasional coherent essay about the stuff that matters to me.

This introductory entry is, appropriately enough, about the name (and URL) of this thing. How and why I chose them. For the folks most likely to be reading this, both are obvious.. but bear with me, here. I'll explain anyway.
ELECTRICITY is my heart, my soul, my vibe, my energy. I am electric, I always have been, and I always will be. This shocking form of energy has always defined my soul. I've known this since infancy. Electricity is what I'm all about. I am unhappy without it: T-storms please me, blackouts depress me. Bzzzap!

As for the 'Eccentric' part? Well, most of the people who know me would tell you I'm a rather strange chick. An oddball of sorts. I've got some fairly unique views, tastes, and ideas. So I'm known to be rather eccentric.. or so I'm told, anyway!

As for the URL, thirty-four happens to be my lucky number. Yes, I have one. Silly, ain't it? It hasn't changed since early childhood. It's just always been a number I associate with good things, including one of my very favorite things. The 'million volts' part of the URL is already explained by the electricity bit.

So there you have it.
